Top Golf Gourses in Florida

Florida is one of the most popular long haul golfing holiday destinations. It is nicknamed the "Sunshine State" because of its generally warm climate - subtropical in many regions of the state, with true tropical climate in the far southern portions. The year round good weather is perhaps the primary reason for Florida's popularity with golfers, but the huge range of courses available is also a deciding factor. Florida offers golf courses that cater for golfers of all abilities and budgets. For the holidaymaker wanting a cheap golf holiday in Florida there are plenty of municipal courses that offer the facility to just turn up, pay and play. At the other end of the scale, Florida offers some of the most exclusive and expensive golf courses in the world. Another reason for Florida's popularity is that there are plenty of things to do as well as playing golf. Theme parks, great beaches and resorts with modern facilities make Florida ideal for families and parties containing non-golfers.

Of the many golf courses in Florida, the following is a small selection of those that have received good reviews from visiting tourists:

The Pebble Creek Golf Club is one of Tampa Bay's top golf destinations. This par 71 course, which measures 6032 yards, should prove enjoyable for the higher handicapper, while remaining challenging enough for the accomplished player. Its beautiful setting features water on 16 holes, moss-draped oaks and abundant wildlife (including alligators at no extra charge!) Reviews suggest that the superbly maintained course represents excellent value for money. The family-owned club extends a friendly welcome to visitors. The Irish-themed "Mulligans" pub, with large-screen TVs, cold Guiness and a large veranda offers a good atmosphere for a post-golf drink.

The Great White Course at Doral Resort and Spa, Miami, is a par 72, 7171 yard Greg Norman design. Its strategically demanding fairways, with hundreds of palm trees and water on 14 holes make for a challenging but picturesque course. Reviews suggest that the course is mentally taxing and a tough test of golfing ability, best suited to the more accomplished player. Position from the tee is of paramount importance, while aggressive approach play is rewarded.

Eagle Creek Golf Club, Orlando, offers a 7198 yard, par 73 championship course, designed by world-renowned architects Ron Garl and Howard Swan. It has five sets of tees for golfers of all skill levels. With no less than 5 par-5s, the course, which only opened in 2003, has received excellent reviews. The Bobby Jones Golf Complex in Sarasota, which boasts nine holes by legendary architect Donald Ross, is one of the most historic golf courses in Florida, dating back to 1926. It also is one of the great budget golf venues on the southwestern coast of the Sunshine State. The complex offers two municipal 18-hole courses; the American with a par of 71, measuring 6,039 yards and the 6537 yard British, with a par of 72.
