A Florida vacation is a relaxing and enjoyable treat, but packing for it can be stressful if you don't know what to expect. So help make your vacation packing stress-free by doing a little research and following these tips.
No matter where in Florida you're going, if it's in the summer months expect hot temperatures. The daytime highs throughout the state range from 30C - 35C (that's the high 80s to low 90s in Fahrenheit), with nighttime lows usually in the low to mid 20s (70s in Fahrenheit). Temperatures are greatly influenced by the surrounding water, which has a moderating effect on both the high and low temperatures. Generally, the interior of the state tends to warm faster and reach higher temperatures during the day while at night temperatures cool more rapidly and fall to a lower degree.
You'll want to pack lightweight clothes such as cotton and linen (although remember that linen wrinkles quite a bit), and be sure to bring shorts, tank tops and t-shirts, and for women, sundresses. Shoes with well-insulated soles are a must because the concrete sidewalks absorb the sun and get very hot.
Even if you're not much of a swimmer, bring a bathing suit. The extreme heat can coax even the most reluctant swimmers into the cool blue waters - whether it's the ocean or one of the many swimming pools you'll find all over the state.
Visit Florida's Weather and Climate page for more information on the weather and climate.

Don't forget to pack an umbrella or very lightweight rain jacket. June, July, and August are the rainiest months of the year. During this period thunderstorms are not uncommon, and many welcome them as they provide cooling relief during hot afternoons, but this relief is usually short-lived. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that rain means cold, because these storms don't last long and the heat and humidity often return immediately. They are also often intense with strong winds and lightning, so keep the possibility in mind when planning your daily activities.
Florida enjoys a primarily casual and informal atmosphere. As a general rule, it's always nice to dress up a bit for dinner, but as most restaurants are accepting of shorts and t-shirts, dressing up may not mean the same thing as it does at home. Most people go casual and wear jeans and a casual shirt. Women, if you feel uncomfortable with jeans, wear a nice pair of slacks or capris. And unless you can't live without them, leave the stiletto heels at home and opt for a nice pair of sandals. Men will look appropriate in khakis and a button down shirt. The need for a jacket and tie is very doubtful. Despite the hot temperatures, you might want a lightweight jacket. Indoor facilities are often air conditioned and can be surprisingly cold.
There are two very important things that travelers should pack when visiting Florida in the summer months: sunscreen and bug spray. The Florida sun is extremely strong and it is vital that people not accustomed to it (and even those who are) wear sunscreen with a high SPF. Otherwise you can expect a severe and painful sunburn. There are also a lot of mosquitoes in Florida. While they're not as much of a problem in coastal areas, they are just about everywhere else. Do yourself a favor and bring bug spray with you (especially if you're camping!). These items can easily be purchased when you're in Florida, but you'll likely be glad to have them with you as soon as you arrive. Don't waste time going out to purchase them. Following these simple tips will help ensure that your Florida vacation will be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. So pack appropriately and have a great time!
